John Planck founded the company in 1991 as the first specialist architectural ironmonger in Kent. The company commenced trading from Rochester and quickly established itself with local builders and contractors before developing relationships with architects and other specifiers in London and the South East, to become one of the country’s leading architectural hardware specialists providing hardware solutions for new and refurbished buildings.
John’s experience and status in the industry encouraged many manufacturers from both home and overseas, to be associated with the company helping them to expand even further the range of products they are still able to offer today. John Planck retired at the end of 2009, with son Tom becoming Managing Director in 2013. The company is still going strong retaining the John Planck name and building on the reputation gained under his guidance.
Specialising in architectural hardware for doors and windows, the company also supplies access control, automatic and pocket door systems for, amongst others, residential, commercial and public building projects. It has access to products that satisfy all the demands and budgets of its clients.
Customer care is at the core of their business and they provide extensive after sales support for all of their products. This enables us to provide a local, specialised service whilst reaping the benefits from being part of an independent national group of companies. They have a unique scheduling service utilising icons and images which provides ‘at a glance’ documentation that simplifies the ordering process and offers flexible delivery and packaging to meet individual project requirements.
John Planck Ltd are constantly being nominated for RIBA/GAI specification awards and often find themselves as winners most notably for the ironmongery specification on the Lancasters project which included Astra’s very own concealed 3000 series.
